SAMSUNG S4… Apples’s BIGGEST NIGHTMARE?

Just when you thought Apple had the upper-hand in the smartphone world…Samsung delivers yet another strong contender. The New Samsung Galaxy S4 is out to put a world of hurt on Apple’s iPhone with one of its coolest feature being a truly “Hands Free” control.  This feature available on its latest model, allows the user to maneuver apps by hovering their fingers an inch above them (without touching the screen), something the “germaphobes” would appreciate. The company also unveiled an advanced 13-megapixel camera and a feature that pauses video when the user takes his eyes off the display as well as a Dual-shot mode which allows users to take still photos or video using the 13-megapixel rear lens and the front-facing 2-megapixel lens so that the shooter’s face appears in the frame. Another cool mode lets you record a voice or ambient sound that plays over a still photo, while “Drama shot” takes a multitude of frames in just a few seconds to create artsy composite photos. If you hate those annoying photo-bombers…Samsungs’ got you again with its new “eraser” feature that lets you delete background objects/people from a photo with a swipe of a finger!

It seems Samsung’s chief concern was including a myriad of camera features or expansion of existing ones considering that users are heavy into photo-sharing sites like Instagram,Facebook and Pintrest. With that said the S4 is complex, revolutionary and visually appealing but can be very overwhelming for some. I believe the S4 will certainly sell well and it is incrementally negative for Apple but my main question about this phone is: Can it still make phone calls? (I kid…I kid)

Will you be trading in your iPhone for the new Galaxy S IV? Sound off!

Blackberry, Long on Keys!

Blackberry is betting big on Alicia Keys to bring enough of her “cool factor” with her to their dying brand that it will help them on their come back tour.  The mobile giant hired Keys to be their Global Creative Director recently and she is just one component of a massive campaign to “get back to relevant” in the mobile space.

The once leader in the market has been absolutely dominated over the past few years by arch rival Apple and their series of iPhones.  It isnt only Apple who has surpassed them as other brands such as Samsung have cruised by Blackberry with their line of Galaxy phones.

The once “tech forward” phone company has been stagnant for years and has really lagged behind the other players in the space.  Only time will tell if moves like this will pay off.  What do you think, can Keys help them get back on top?

The Lebron Brand Bounce Back!

The new Lebron James Commercial for Samsung Galaxy is pure branding genius.  Lebron, arguably the greatest living basketball player is fresh off an NBA Title and trying to get back on the marketing map.  His reputation has taken a big hit after leaving Cleveland for Miami which made him go from the guy everyone loved to the guy everyone (outside of Miami) hated.

Samsung is aggressively going after their main competitor, the Apple iPhone to win some market share in the mobile phone space.  They partnered up with Lebron as his endorsement star is back on the rise after winning that ring last year.  They position this “day in the life” campaign that shows their many great features in use by a huge mega star doing every day things with his phone.

This “real” look into his world is a definite WIN from a branding standpoint for both Samsung and  Lebron James. It makes him seem more real, relate-able and approachable while still saying to the public “Hey Lebron uses it, so should you”!

In the end it makes me like both products more.  What more could a commercial ask for? If you haven’t seen it just click the image and enjoy!
