The Next LeBron James?

I generally hate and stay away from the hype of “The Next” great basketball player comparisons. I mean you remember how many “The Next Michael Jordans” there were who never did anything? But I came across this video of Seventh Woods today and I was pretty impressed.  Literal domination by this kid and oh yeah, look what number he is wearing!

High School domination is not really what MJ was known for, though I sure would like to see some of that video footage if it exists.  So the best comparison is LeBron James because he was seemingly a legend before he left for The NBA.  If you are a hoops fan I think you will dig this highlight reel.  Pretty legit!

BALLING PRESIDENTS

What else do we have to look forward to outside of this wonderful Presidents’ Day Weekend which offers up 3 days of rest and relaxation? Why it’s also the NBA ALL STAR weekend!

V-Day is over and the men can now cozy up to the sound of screeching sneakers as they watch the very best of the Leagues’ East and West Coast players battle it out in the yearly rivalry. The action will begin today…Feb 15th with the Rising Stars Challenge to start things off, the Hall of Fame announcement and the ALL-Star Celebrity Game later on tonight. Saturday’s action on Feb. 16 will feature four events that make up a large-scale competition between players from each conference including the Sears Shooting Stars, the Skills Challenge, the Three Point  Contest and one of the most anticipated weekend event…the Slam Dunk Contest. If you think this weekend is just about showing the athletic prowess of the Leagues’ best…think again! These events are actually for a good cause…with the winning conference taking home money for a pre-determined charity. Sunday Feb 17th is the only day outside of the super bowl that you will not be able to get his eyes off the screen as the NBA All-Star Game kicks off at 8PM(ET) capping off the weekend with lots and lots of celebrity parties sprinkled in between.  Will you be watching?

The Lebron Brand Bounce Back!

The new Lebron James Commercial for Samsung Galaxy is pure branding genius.  Lebron, arguably the greatest living basketball player is fresh off an NBA Title and trying to get back on the marketing map.  His reputation has taken a big hit after leaving Cleveland for Miami which made him go from the guy everyone loved to the guy everyone (outside of Miami) hated.

Samsung is aggressively going after their main competitor, the Apple iPhone to win some market share in the mobile phone space.  They partnered up with Lebron as his endorsement star is back on the rise after winning that ring last year.  They position this “day in the life” campaign that shows their many great features in use by a huge mega star doing every day things with his phone.

This “real” look into his world is a definite WIN from a branding standpoint for both Samsung and  Lebron James. It makes him seem more real, relate-able and approachable while still saying to the public “Hey Lebron uses it, so should you”!

In the end it makes me like both products more.  What more could a commercial ask for? If you haven’t seen it just click the image and enjoy!
