NAS REMIXED

Multi-Platinum artist Nasir Jones aka Nas as we know him is back and “Life is Good”. In one of the most intimate interviews ever given, Nas shares his fears and his thoughts on his present which he says is a remix of his past in Huck’s magazine issue #036.

He tells us candidly that he did not appreciate his audience twenty years ago…but after learning the in’s and outs and understanding the industry he now considers himself a performer. When asked whom he wrote this album for his response was “the people from my era, early nineties”…he states that he wrote this album specifically for the 90’s because “there was nothing else out there like it” and we here most definitely agree.  The album speaks back to his 1994 debut “Illmatic” but according to Nas the music is coming from “a different place now…the motivation is different”. He credits it to his upbringing in Queens , New York…the template for almost everything he puts out lyrically. According to Sony Music’s A&R Faith Newman who made a valid observation in Eric Michael Dyson’s Book “Born to Use Mics” :”I have never heard anybody express something so vividly and perfectly as Nas. It’s so effortless. You get his mental picture of where he’s coming from. It’s not gratuitously violent or sexist, it’s just real”.

Nas has always been a bit of an anomaly in a world where lyricism now takes backseat to celebrity, yet somehow he remains relevant. The desire to create possesses him with the same intensity as it did when he was a kid growing up in Queens bridge being one of the only 2 top 5 lyricist that’s still making music today. He delves into his personal life even more in this interview from his first rhyme, to how he feels about the direction of hip hop, to his public break up and his most recent financial issues with the IRS.
